The “Political Economy Analysis (PEA) of Gender Equality and Women’s Rights Programme in Nigeria” is an in-depth report commissioned as part of the Women’s Voices and Leadership Nigeria Project. It examines the barriers to gender equality and the effectiveness of women’s rights programming in Nigeria. The report highlights key areas such as women’s political participation, economic empowerment, and the rise of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). Despite some legislative frameworks, there is a substantial gap between policy and practice, with women remaining underrepresented in political and economic spheres. Additionally, the report identifies the lack of resources, discriminatory social norms, and political violence as significant challenges to women’s advancement. It recommends legal reforms, better economic inclusion for women, and enhanced support for women’s rights organizations to address these issues.
